How I got great skin, or…

..why you can pry my Clarisonic Mia from my cold, dead hands.

I’ve been using this little wonder for about five months and for me, everything people said about it is true. Reduced pore size- yes. Less acne-yes. Fewer fine lines-yes. Reduced blackheads-yes. Aids moisturiser absorption-yes. And last but not least, just an overall more refined and radiant skin texture and look. And all from washing my face!

I found out about the Clarisonic on Makeupalley, and immediately set about reading everything I could. I read every single review on MUA, countless blogs, all the reviews I could find both positive and negative. Then I took the plunge.

I got my MIA at Myer for $150. Ouch. But I reasoned that with my wedding next year, that was basically the cost of two facials, but with MIA every day would be a facial! I could probably have saved some money if I ordered online, but for something that expensive I was a bit reluctant. MIA comes with the sensitive brush, charger doodad (which is actually magnetic and pretty cool), and the unit itself.

Opinions on usage vary. Some people use it twice a day, everyday, some people twice a week. It’s all about what your skin can handle. Clarisonic make a big deal about it being a sonic cleanser, not an exfoliant, but it does still exfoliate at least mildly. I mostly use mine once a day, but sometimes I do it twice and it’s not an issue. You just gently run the unit over your skin with a limp wrist  as you wash your face, and it’s recommended to use a cream or gel cleanser, as opposed to a foaming one. I did have some dry and rough patches on my skin at first, not awful to look at or anything, but my skin felt a little tight. I switched from the Sensitive brush to the Delicate (look at me! I’m a delicate flower!) and that solved the problem. I just purchased a new brush head (you should replace them every three months or so, and be sure to wash them well each week), they’re a little exxy here in Australia ($35). You can get them cheaper on eBay if you look, but I’m happy to pay for the convenience of just walking into a shop.

Features- rechargeable battery, fully sealed so you can use it in the shower, sonic oscillating brush. Has an automatic timer so it runs for one minute.

I’d recommend it to anyone, except maybe those with Roseacea or really sensitive skin. It’s not a magic cure for acne, but having clean skin dramatically improved the situation for me.  I went from people saying I had ‘good skin for my age’ to just having good skin.
